Carpet Care Advice and Tips

Weekly Carpet Maintenance

In order to keep your carpets looking their best, we recommend that you vacuum your carpets once a week or more frequently if they are exposed to heavier traffic. Always use a good quality vacuum cleaner and remove shoes when entering the carpeted area.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

With regularly scheduled professional maintenance, your carpets & upholstery will last years longer and your home will be more hygienic. All carpets should be professionally cleaned at least once a year. Highly used areas and traffic lanes should be professionally cleaned more frequently (about every six months).

Cleaning Spots and Removing Stains

Spots are caused by liquids or solids that are present on or around carpet fibres. Stains are caused by dies from those materials being absorbed into carpet fibers. More often than not, we are able to safely remove stains with our own proprietary stain removers, but this is not always the case. Therefore it is always safer, and less expensive, to act immediately when a stain occurs. Most stains that are allowed to dry will become quite difficult to remove; whenever possible, always deal with spills & stains as soon as they occur.

Stain/Spot Removal Tips

  1. With a clean white cloth, absorb any surface liquid. In the case of a spill with solids, carefully remove as much of the solids as possible with a blunt stainless steel utensil.
  2. Use professional grade spot remover to address spots, or club soda to dampen the entire stain area.
  3. Use a blunt stainless steel utensil to mix in the cleaning solution on & around the stain area.
  4. With a clean white cloth apply pressure and blot up the liquid. Never rub a stain.
  5. It may be necessary to repeat this process several times. Always ensure you use a clean white cloth to clean each section of the stain and continue to check for transfer of staining material.
  6. When stain transfer no longer occurs, place a clean white cloth on the stained area and weight it down with a heavy object; this forces any remaining moisture to be absorbed.
